What happens when I first visit?
At the first appointment there is a bit of form filling. A full case history is taken which involves detailed questioning about the problem you have come with, as well as information on past medical matters.
An examination is then carried out. You may be asked to do some simple movements and the osteopath will feel the area and ask you to lie down.
You will often need to remove some clothing so the relevant area can be accessed. Wearing loose clothing can be helpful
The osteopath will discuss their findings with you and explain the diagnosis and treatment plan.
Sometimes it is useful to have test results such as x-ray or blood tests and your osteopath is always ready to communicate with your GP (with your permission.)
Sometimes treatment other than osteopathy is recommended.
The initial session takes about one hour and subsequent treatments are 30 minutes.
